Wanchain Partners With Rivetz and Telefónica to Bring Blockchain Privacy, Security to Mobile Devices

Distributed Summary:

  • The public blockchain has partnered with one of the largest mobile network operators in the world to build security and privacy solution
  • Solution distributes private keys between two independent systems to ensure user control
  • Could bring advantages of decentralization to millions of users

The public blockchain Wanchain has joined a partnership with mobile security provider Rivetz and ElevenPaths, the cybersecurity arm of Telefónica, to enable blockchain-based privacy and security for mobile subscribers.

Telefónica, based in Madrid, is one of the largest telephone and mobile network operators in the world.

According to a press release on the partnership, the mission is to expand on “Dual Roots of Trust,” a “built-in hardware security technology” that can enable “carrier-grade identity and e-commerce protections on potentially tens of millions of devices at Telefónica and billions of devices worldwide.”

The system cryptographically distributes a user’s private key between two independent systems. This is thought to offer an additional layer of security because if one of the systems is compromised, users should still have control of their private keys.

“Wanchain set out a year ago to solve interchain operability, one of the industry’s biggest challenges,” Wanchain’s founder and CEO Jack Lu told Distributed. “We are excited to now also pave the way for blockchain [technology] into the telecom industry, where we’ll bring our cross-chain technology to mobile devices along with these two strong organizations.”
